Why needle size alone isn't the whole setup
The right needle stops obvious problems like skipped stitches or fabric snags, but thread weight, stitch length, and the right presser foot all affect how a seam actually looks and holds up. This generator pulls all four together for one fabric and project type at once, instead of just answering the needle question and leaving the rest to guesswork.
When in doubt, test on a scrap first
Every roll of fabric behaves slightly differently even within the same general category — sew a few inches on a scrap or seam allowance edge before committing to a full seam, especially on anything stretchy, slippery, or unusually thick.
Change the needle for each new project
A needle dulls after roughly one project's worth of sewing, and switching fabric categories (say, from cotton to denim) without switching the needle is one of the most common causes of skipped stitches or snagged fabric that looks like a machine problem but isn't.
